2018 NEGA Boy Scout Show

GMS at NEGA Boy Scout Show
Lawrenceville, GA
Saturday, April 21, 2018

GMS was invited to teach boy scouts and cub scouts about geology at the Northeast Georgia Boy Scout Show, so Charles packed the Forester full of cabbing demo equipment plus everything else we needed… except an extension cord. Diana Poppelreuter saved the day with an extension cord, then mesmerized scouts as she demonstrated wire wrapping while she also gave away stickers and flyers and showed visitors rocks and fossils she and Juergen have collected on field trips, all with a cast on her foot! Charles demonstrated cabbing and answered questions about GMS. Tom Faller helped me with Rock/Not Rock and Rock Plinko games so we could give away lots of PLR’s (pretty little rocks), special rock prizes, and fossils while still managing to sneak in a few geology lessons. We wrestled the tent in the wind, improvised our set-up as necessary, and had a grand time meeting all of the scouts, their parents, and other visitors. To sum it up in 4 words: windy, chilly, busy, fun! Many thanks to all of the GMS volunteers and all of the people who came to see us!
