2017 Roswell National Night Out
GMS at National Night Out
Roswell, GA
Tuesday, August 1, 2017
National Night Out is a way for law enforcement, firefighters, and other community organizations to get out and meet the public. Every year, GMS members represent our club at this event and we are always a big hit! Lawrence Parker was the consummate “carny” and drew crowds of children and adults to play “Rock/Not Rock”. Shirley Parker ran the “Rock Plinko” game while I encouraged people to sign up for our free raffle. Charles ran around making deals for the club and helped with activities as needed.
Sometimes people ask why we do these events. The best way to answer that question is for you to volunteer to help at one, too. This year, all of us heard comments like “Yay! I was hoping the Georgia Mineral Society would be here!” and “…all she could talk about was finding you guys so she could play Rock/Not Rock!” Then there was that thousand watt smile on the little girl who won the raffle. Look at the volunteer page on the GMS website and check with education chair Bill Waggener. There are many volunteer opportunities available for all members!
