2013 Roswell National Night Out

Lawrence and Shirley Parker and Charles and Lori Carter represented GMS at the 2013 Roswell National Night Out Event. This event is held annually to help support local law enforcement and community groups. According to the Roswell Police Department's news release, the goal of the event is to "heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs, and most importantly, send a message that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back".

Lawrence Parker teased visitors with tricky Rock/Not Rock challenges. He would put an object into a magic rock/not rock box then spin it around and open the lid. If the player correctly identified the object as a rock or not a rock, they won a GMS sticker. But if they incorrectly identified the object, all it took was a magical spin of the box to get the correct answer and be rewarded with a GMS sticker!

Then, they would move down the table to play a new game for this year called “Rock Plinko”. Each player selected a pretty little rock of their choice and dropped it onto the Rock Plinko board. The pretty little rock would rattle and bounce off of wooden pegs until it landed on a number at the bottom of the Rock Plinko board. Players selected a slip of paper from a matching numbered bin and opened it to reveal the prize they had won. Many players won a beautiful crinoid stem from Dale Hollow Lake that was collected on last year’s field trip there. A few lucky winners won a special prize including a jade ring, a mother of pearl ring, grab bags, a polished nodule, and some dig your own dinosaur kits!

Several visitors requested membership forms while Shirley Parker and Charles encouraged people to sign up for a free raffle. Two people won beautiful geodes from (according to Kim) Chee-hoo-ah-hoo-ah, Mexico! We received several gifts from other exhibitors and Shirley even won a Target gift certificate!
