Annis MacRae -- Far Right
June 29, 2002
Editor of "Tips & Trips" 1970-71, 1976-79
President GMS 1975
One of our outstanding members, past president, past bulletin editor and an all-around participating rockhound, Mrs. Annis MacRae, died June 29, 2002 at the age of 94. This retired school teacher was full of enthusiasm and “go-gettingness”. She saw potential in every young person she met. She stimulated and encouraged them to great heights of achievement. One of her great success stories was a teen-aged Kim Cochran, a great source of accomplishments and pride. Under her leadership, she took a group of local mineral club members and had the state legislators to a luncheon where they agreed to adopt the State’s mineral heritage symbols. She won awards for articles in Tips and Trips from the Eastern Federation of Mineral Societies. She was a talented craftsperson, an elder in the Presbyterian Church and even when she was at the St. Anne’s Retirement Home, she rounded up interesting residents and exhibited their former writings and collections at the Home. In her declining years she has lived with her daughter (Helen) ’s family in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
We send our deepest sympathy and blessings to her interesting and lovable descendents.
