Various Minerals in Georgia
Saturday, December 9, 2023
Everyone met up on the mountain at the appropriate time, got signed in, and gave donations for the caretaker. We all moved up to the parking area, did our safety briefing, and got our digging stuff ready. Aaron helped the people who had never been there before by showing them around and pointing out where to collect what. We dodged a few light showers, but all in all the weather was good and the clouds kept it from being too hot in the main pit. Several nice thumb nail size rutiles were found as well as some colorful iridescent hematite, a few nice chunks of pyrophyllite, and some lazulite. There were new growths of sulfur crystals in some of the dug out cave walls (not something you really wanted to take home with you). One member looked mostly for micro minerals, not sure what was found, so stay tuned for the results of that. The dig ended around 4 with most everyone off the mountain by 4:30. All in all it was a good trip.
