Lace Agate/Chert in Georgia
Sunday, May 7, 2023
This trip was the first chance for GMS members to welcome our new friends from the Chugach Gem & Mineral Society from Anchorage, Alaska. Everyone was happy to meet and happy to collect beautiful rocks! Charles set up the cabbing unit he built and face-polished rocks that were just collected. Diana wire-wrapped pieces for the property owner using minimally processed rocks giving the pendants a wonderful balance between natural and cabbed.
Material was abundant including chert and lace banded agate, so it didn’t take long for everyone to fill their buckets with plenty of goodies. Speaking of goodies, Charles set up a tent where people could sit, chat, and cool off with bottled water and a delicious fig cake that Diana made with figs from her garden!
It was a great way to kick off our week with our Alaskan friends! Many thanks to the property owners for allowing us to collect there and for Charles to set up his lapidary equipment too. Thank you to Diana for wire-wrapping pieces, taking photos, that awesome cake, and for helping run the trip. As always, thank you to Charles for arranging this fun trip. Plus, we must thank everyone who came on the trip and helped make it a safe and successful adventure!
