Agate, Jasper, and Fossils in Alabama
Sunday, September 25, 2022
Despite a threatening forecast, about 30 members showed up. The objective was a mile or so of dry(ish) creek, but good stuff started showing up in the parking lot before we even got to the creek. Spray bottles weren’t needed, thanks to water provided from above by Mother Nature.
Finds included the elusive agate of the area (scarce), jasper, other chalcedony, and fossilized corals eroded out of the Mississippian limestones of the cliffs towering over the cove. There was a lot of material to choose from, and something for everyone’s interest.
It was a great trip thanks to the property owner and all of the members who made it a fun day.
