Geodes and Ordovician Fossils in Kentucky
Saturday, September 14, 2019
Sometimes a location is so much fun we just have to go back a few months later – like this one. There were so many people who were not able to attend a similar trip earlier in the year that we scheduled another one. And good thing too, because the water was super low so even more gravel was exposed! But before we got to the good stuff, members filled 7 big garbage bags with the bad stuff (garbage) from the creek, plus they hauled out some impressively large pieces of garbage as well. Members also removed all the filled bags and large garbage pieces in their own vehicles after the trip.
Once our civic duty and promise to the property owners was fulfilled, everyone quickly found several good geodes. Both Daniel Miller and Terrilyn Price let us borrow their geode crackers even though they could not be there. Those geode crackers got a good workout too, and everyone appreciated having them there. Besides geodes, I saw several nice fossils as well as some super cool beekite specimens. It was a beautiful day, and everyone had a lot of fun.
Once again, we must thank the property owners for allowing us to collect in this wonderful place. And again, thank you to Charles Carter for arranging another great trip!
