Banded Agate/Chert in Georgia
Sunday, September 17, 2017
A large pile of recently quarried rocks covered with chert dust could have been an enticing but frustrating prospect, but fortunately some heavy rains came along a few days before the trip and washed them off for us. The rain left us some convenient puddles for washing rocks, plus some squishy mud for our boots to find, too.
Members from Montgomery, Cobb, and GMS had plenty of pretty pieces to choose from. There were many large chunks suitable for cutting as well as an abundant supply of little pieces for grab bag material. Collecting was easy, so by the time the heat was beginning to sap us, we were loaded up and ready to call it a day anyway.
Many thanks to Charles Carter for setting up this trip as a last minute replacement for the previously planned trip that had to be cancelled because of the threat of high water.
