Almandine Garnets in Georgia
Saturday, March 26, 2016
After cleaning up a mile and cleaning up some BBQ (and fries), GMS members collected small almandine garnets!.
Garnets were so abundant you could get piles of them just by running your hand across the ground! Casey Sosebee brought a screen so we were able to use the ground scraping method plus the screen to gather a whole gallon bag of garnets for grab bags!
Then, we picked up perfect little garnets plus some garnets in matrix. Many of the garnets will be used in schools.
It took some effort to get this field trip arranged, so thank you to Charles Carter for getting permission to collect and many thanks to the property owner for allowing us access.
