DMC field trip report, March 29, 2014
Sunny skies, warm temperatures, dry ground and crystal clear creek water were nowhere in sight for the March 29 DMC trip. Hosted by the Memphis Archaeological and Geological Society about 55 members donned boots, waders, warm cloths and hiked down the slippery slopes of the creek. Upon arrival the rockhounds spread out over about a mile and collected banded agates, jasper, tumbling grade slag, fossils and petrified wood. The most notable finds of the day were two pieces of petrified wood, one weighing 25 pounds and the other weighing about 40 pounds. Thanks to all the brave rockhounds for showing up on a somewhat miserable weather day.
