Mississippian Fossils in Tennessee
Saturday, November 10, 2012
This field trip was GREAT. About 30 rockhounds showed up for the joint trip with the Knoxville Gem and Mineral Society. We first collected fossil corals until all had their fill. Then went to the crinoid location. There we collected stems, plates, cutting material and calyxes (heads). About 12 calyxes were found, very impressive. Next, we went to collect geodes and Daniel Miller, Knoxville field trip chair, brought his geode cracker. All had a great time and we'll do it next year if possible.Charles Carter, GMS Field Trip Chair

Crinoid stems were found all along the shoreline

A few lucky people found crinoid calyxes!
