THE ROAD TO TUCSON 2007
Rain, Ice, and Snow
       [2007]

I-10 between Las Cruces and Deming, New Mexico

This was the most difficult drive yet out to the Tucson shows.  I departed Georgia just as the first Southwestern winter storm had subsided and just before the next winter storm was to strike Texas and New Mexico.  It mostly rain through out the trip until about ten miles before I-20 ends into I-10 outside of Toyah Texas.  All of a sudden a large portion of the rain on my windshield froze solid.  Very little visibility . . . Blowing snow . . .  I immediately noticed that all of the bushes along side the highway were covered in ice.    This scene ONLY lasted for about 40 miles but I was sitting on egg shells the whole time till I entered slightly warmer air tempitures and the ice and the road started to clear.

The next snow event occurred between Las Cruces and Deming , New Mexico.  Started out with sleet and rain in Las Cruces and the closer I got to Deming, the more it turned into a snow storm.  At Deming the snow stopped and it was clear the remainder of the trip to Lordsburg.
