Jackson, AL  "Agate beds"
Out Bound Travel - DAY ONE
The last time I visited this location was about seven years ago.  Back then, the property had just been clear-cut (logged) and it was an easy task to hike down to the stream where the best agate could be found.  Now the pine trees were about ten feet tall and posed a nearly impenetrable barrier!   I soon discovered that the adjacent fields had been cleared so I decided to hike over the hill and down the other side to find the stream.  The stream was there but not much agate was to be found.  I went back to the woods and found a Jeep mound blocking one of the old logging roads.  Following this track, I hiked up, over and down the hill to an area where small agate pieces covered the ground over a fairly large area.  The woods seemed to close up and the trail became indistinguishable beyond these agate beds.  It was getting late and the sought after stream where the larger pieces of agate had been found on my previous trip would have to wait for another day!

Ed. note:  Camera/operator problems prevented saving pictures of this location.
