We gathered at the rockshop at 8:30 to do a field trip to the Constellation mine for psylommine and agate.  There was a 40% chance of rain when we departed Lordsburg in the direction of Red Rock, N.M. and the Constellation mine.  All of the way out to the mine the skies became darker and darker in the direction we were driving.  We decided to make a run for it to see how far we could drive before the rain hit.  We made all the way to a very bad washed out section of the dirt road just about a mile from the mine.  All of our road engineers got out of their trucks to discuss whether we should try to repair the ditch or create a new road around the impassable part of the wash.  Finally, it was decided that we would save our energy for rockhounding and drive in from the opposite side of the hill on a very bumpy but passable two track.  When the road started to get really rough, the two wheel drive, low clearance vehicles were parked and all the remaining trucks continued on up the hill across another bad but passable wash to the top of the hill and the mine.  This mine consisted of many open cut workings with plenty of tailings to sift through.

It was decided that the longbeds would not make this wash and it would be too much trouble to construct a by-pass route.
