The Tubac Festival
had its start back in 1959 and is the longest running event of its kind
in the southwest.
Every
February, the Tubac Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Tubac Festival of
the Arts. The major event of the year for Tubac showcases the work of
hundreds of visiting artists, craft persons and musicians from around
the country and Canada. While the show is juried for quality, its not
pretentious. Serious paintings share the street with whimsical
sculptures and New Age music. In addition to Tubac's many fine
restaurants, during Festival you'll find a food court packed with
delicious treats. [Tubac Chamber of Commerce]

Very limited FREE parking
. Various civic organization held possession to several big
lots adjacent to the festival for a $5.00 parking fee. We
supported the St. Ann's Parish and Montessori De Santa Cruz Charter
School parking lot! There were plenty of Port-o-lets and free
horse drawn wagons to take you around from street to street.
The draft horses pulling the wagons had large diaper bags
attached to make things a little more sanitary.
Most of the people attending the
festival on Friday looked to be senior citizens from Green Valley out
for a day of entertainment. They were buying a lot of decorator items
for the home and specialty foods and some local wines. I
sampled a few of the wines but found them to be not the kind I would
buy at the price they were selling for. The arts
and crafts at this show were pretty ordinary with a few exceptions.
A lot of dealers to look at and well worth the parking fee to
attend. Also, Tubac is a short distance Nogales and the
Mexican border. [jrf]

Now, each February, about 50,000
people show up for the five-day festival of arts and crafts, with
hundreds of booths running from high-end painting to stained glass to
corn dogs and face painting. Parking is at a premium, and the
atmosphere is much like a county fair.
